Care and Cleaning

LEATHER FLOORING MANUFACTORY — leather and leather flooring are straightforward to look after and long-lasting. Day-to-day care takes little effort; beyond that, the surface needs re-impregnating at intervals that depend on the leather and on how heavily the floor is used. The sections below set out both.

Sweeping and Vacuuming

Loose dirt on the surface can be removed with a powerful vacuum or brush vacuum — the nozzle should have no sharp edges. Work gently. The floor can also be swept easily with an ordinary broom.

Damp Cleaning

LEATHER FLOORING MANUFACTORY — leather and leather flooring should be mopped regularly with lukewarm water and a pH-neutral cleaner. Damp, never wet. A microfiber mop or any of the floor cloths available in stores works best.

Removing Stains

On LEATHER FLOORING MANUFACTORY leather and leather flooring, most stains can be kept at bay if they are dealt with before they dry in. Stubborn stains are best left to a specialist.

Fresh spills

The impregnation and the leather's natural oils hold spills on the surface for a while. Lift them off carefully with a spoon or the back of a knife together with kitchen paper, then wipe over with a damp microfiber cloth.

If liquid has already soaked in

Remove it with lukewarm water and mild, pH-neutral soap, taking care not to spread the stain further. Then blot the solution up with kitchen paper. Once the area is completely dry, roughen the surface again lightly with a household sponge or a brush and re-impregnate the leather at that spot.

Surface Treatment

As a general rule, leather flooring — and leather in general — should be treated and re-impregnated at least every two years, depending on how heavily it is used.

For more delicate or heavily used leathers such as suede, we recommend re-impregnating every six months.

All other collections: treat with leather oil or leather grease every one to two years, as needed, depending on the room climate and on how the joints have settled.

Step by Step: Cleaning a Suede Leather Floor

The photographs below show a soiled suede leather floor in an English pub and bar lounge, taken at a time when smoking at the bar was still permitted. The first two images show the dirt left by outdoor shoes, ash, and the like before cleaning; the deep clean was carried out after about a year of use. Images 3 and 4 were taken during cleaning, image 5 shows the result.
